As of 22 May 2025, new applications can be submitted for the ERC Advanced Grant. This scheme targets established researchers who have achieved significant research results over the past 10 years. The current call is open until 28 August 2025.
ERC Advanced Grant in 2025
For this call, a substantial budget of €682.5 million has been made available. Researchers with a long-standing record of significant scientific achievements may apply for an ERC Advanced Grant. Each grant can amount to a maximum of €2.5 million for a period of five years. With the available budget, approximately 276 grants are expected to be awarded.

In addition to the ERC Advanced Grant scheme, there are four other ERC funding programmes. Each one targets a different stage of a research career:
- ERC Starting Grant – for researchers with 2 to 7 years of research experience
- ERC Consolidator Grant – for researchers with 7 to 12 years of research experience
- ERC Advanced Grant – for researchers with 10 years of significant research achievements
- ERC Proof of Concept – for researchers who have previously received an ERC grant for pioneering research
- ERC Synergy Grant – for groups of 2 to 4 principal investigators collaborating to tackle ambitious research challenges
