The EIC Transition is a funding instrument designed to support the maturation and commercialization of cutting-edge technologies. To be eligible, your proposal is based on results from a previously funded EIC Pathfinder, FET (Future and Emerging Technologies) or ERC Proof of Concept project. You get funding up to €2.5 million for innovations that have already shown promising results at the proof-of-concept phase and require further development to reach market readiness.
What is EIC Transition?
EIC Transition is a highly competitive EU grant that supports SMEs, spin-offs, research organisations, universities and startups with maturing and validating their deep-tech innovation. Your should bring the Technology Readiness Level from 3-4 to 5-6.
Conditions of the EIC Transition
- The EIC Transition covers 100% of the eligible project costs, with a maximum of €2.5 million.
- Supports advancement from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3–4 to TRL 5–6.
- Includes funding for activities such as customer discovery, IP strategy, and regulatory planning.
- Open to both individual entities and small consortia (typically up to 5 partners).
The EIC Transition call is open annually and requires a well-structured proposal with solid technical, commercial, and societal impact arguments. With the right preparation, this program can be a game-changer for innovative SMEs, research teams, universities, spin-offs and startups across Europe.
What is the European Innovation Council?
The European Innovation Council (EIC) is an innovation programme focussed on identifying, developing and scaling up game changing innovations in the EU. The funding programmes of the EIC are: EIC Pathfinder, EIC Pre-Accelerator, EIC Accelerator, EIC Transition and STEP Scale Up. The EIC has € 6 billion budget and the budget is part of the Horizon Europe programme.
