The Clean Aviation funding scheme focuses on the development and implementation of innovative technologies to decarbonise the aviation industry. Through this programme, companies, universities, research centres and aviation experts can invest in the sustainable transformation of aviation.
A carbon-free future for aviation
Clean Aviation aims to develop and implement aviation technologies in short term, that contribute to carbon neutrality. The scheme has two main objectives:
- To support the development of technologies that reduce carbon emissions in aviation;
- To strengthen a globally competitive and resilient European aviation industry and supply chain.
Clean Aviation Calls & Budget
The Clean Aviation programme is divided into two phases. We are currently in phase two, running from 2025 to 2030. During this phase, a total budget of € 900 million is available to support the development and implementation of sustainable aviation technologies. This funding is expected to be allocated across multiple calls in these years. In February 2025 the third call opened with a budget of € 380 million, and was distributed between several themes.
Fast Track Areas (FTAs)
A new initiative within the programme is the introduction of Fast Track Areas (FTAs). These aim to reduce the risks associated with promising technologies, enabling faster implementation. Priority will be given to high-impact projects that can be rapidly deployed and address urgent challenges in aviation decarbonisation. A budget of € 15 million has been allocated to support this initiative.
